Marcos Carreira, who has studied circuit breakers in the past (and lived through them as a risk manager in 2002 and a trader in 2008) is now studying the behavior of the order book in situations that lead to a circuit breaker being triggered in order to find whether auctions might provide a better solution for the market, given the extended period of downtime (no trading) associated with circuit breakers and also the magnet effect that might accelerate the move towards the price limits.
